Editorial Services
Editing is for writers who already have a completed manuscript and want a clear professional read on what’s working, what isn’t, and how to make the book stronger.
Unlike book coaching, which happens during the planning, drafting, or revision process, editorial services are designed around a full manuscript review. You send me the draft, I read it closely, and I provide feedback to help you move into your next round of revision with more clarity and confidence.
I offer two levels of editorial support: editorial assessments and developmental edits.
An editorial assessment is a big-picture review that helps writers understand what needs to be addressed and in what order, typically through a detailed editorial letter rather than direct comments on the manuscript. A developmental edit is more in-depth and hands-on, with feedback on major story elements such as structure, plot, character, pacing, and overall execution.
Editorial Assessment
Rate: $0.028 per word
An editorial assessment is a great fit if you want a professional, big-picture read of your manuscript before committing to a deeper edit or major revision.
For this service, I read your full manuscript and provide a detailed editorial letter that identifies the manuscript’s strengths, its biggest opportunities for improvement, and the most important revision priorities. This is not a line edit or a marked-up manuscript. Instead, it gives you a clear roadmap for what to focus on next.
An editorial assessment may be a good fit if you:
-
have a completed draft but aren’t sure what kind of revision it needs
-
want big-picture feedback before investing in a developmental edit
-
feel too close to the manuscript to see what’s working and what isn’t
-
want guidance on structure, pacing, character, stakes, voice, theme, or market fit
-
need a clear list of revision priorities before moving forward
You’ll receive:
-
a full read of your manuscript
-
a detailed editorial letter
-
feedback on major craft elements such as plot, structure, pacing, character development, voice, stakes, and reader engagement
-
clear recommendations for your next round of revision
Developmental Edit
Rate: $0.048 per word
A developmental edit is a deeper, more hands-on edit for writers who are ready for detailed feedback on the manuscript itself.
For this service, I read your full manuscript and provide both an editorial letter and comments directly on the manuscript. The goal is to help you understand not only what needs revision, but where those issues are showing up on the page and how you might address them.
A developmental edit may be a good fit if you:
-
have revised the manuscript on your own and are ready for a professional deep dive
-
know the book needs work but need help diagnosing the specific issues
-
want detailed feedback on structure, pacing, character arcs, plot logic, stakes, voice, and emotional payoff
-
are preparing for querying, submission, self-publishing, or another major revision
-
want a combination of big-picture strategy and manuscript-specific notes
You’ll receive:
-
a full read of your manuscript
-
a detailed editorial letter
-
comments directly on the manuscript
-
feedback on story structure, plot, pacing, character development, voice, tension, stakes, theme, and reader experience
-
specific notes on where the manuscript is working and where it may need revision
-
clear recommendations for your next draft
Which Service Is Right for You?
An editorial assessment is best if you want a broad, strategic overview of the manuscript and a clear sense of what to tackle next.
A developmental edit is best if you want a more detailed, hands-on response with both an editorial letter and margin comments throughout the manuscript.
In both cases, the goal is not to rewrite the book for you, but to help you see the draft more clearly, understand its strongest possibilities, and move into revision with a plan.
